FORM 696 (Again)
Form 696, which is used by the Metropolitan Police for the risk assessment of gigs in some London boroughs, has been revised following pressure from objectors, including many musicians. The form, which police ask some gig promoters to fill out when they are organising live events, used to ask for details of the ethnicity of fans attending the event, plus the style of music set to be played. The ethnicity question was removed in a revision following objections from many promoters, bands and the Equality and Human Rights Commission. Now the question about the style of music to be played has been removed, reports BBC News.A petition against the form's use was set up last year by Jon McClure of Reverend And The Makers at Petitions.number10.gov.uk. Former Undertones singer Feargal Sharkey, head of music industry umbrella group UK Music, had also criticised the Met for using the form, questioning the link between violence and live music.

Repackage of entire Hendrix core catalogue
Experience Hendrix, the family company that controls Hendrix's catalog and copyrights, has struck an eight-year, worldwide licensing deal with Sony Music Entertainment for the master recordings of the legendary guitarist.
Sony plans to launch an ambitious reissue campaign in 2010 that will include deluxe editions of the three original albums by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, posthumous releases, the official Dagger Records bootleg line and previously unreleased archival recordings and filmed concerts.
The deal also includes licensing rights outside the United States for the 1970 live set "Band of Gypsys," which EMI Music will continue to distribute stateside. Universal Music Group had held the master licenses for the rest of the Hendrix catalog since 1997. Sony's licensing deal will take effect January 1.
In March, Seattle-based Experience Hendrix moved administration of the Hendrix music publishing catalog from Sony/ATV to Universal Music Publishing Group. At the time, Experience Hendrix president/CEO Janie Hendrix, the guitarist's sister, said she was planning a late-2009 release for a Dagger bootleg title and CD and DVD releases of live performances at London's Royal Albert Hall in February 1969, which would include behind-the-scenes footage. Those releases are now planned for 2010.
Sony's reissue campaign for the core catalog -- "Are You Experienced," "Axis: Bold As Love" and "Electric Ladyland" -- will encompass deluxe editions with extra material and enhanced packaging. Because plans are being worked out, Sony and Experience Hendrix can't yet provide details on the bonus material.
"There is an obligation that we have to fans that when we reissue material, you have to offer a substantial greater value in the content ... whether it be audio, visual or packaging," said Adam Block, Sony Music Entertainment Legacy Recordings senior vice president and general manager. "That is a core fundamental strategy here. I do know that in this case there is an enormous amount of material that Hendrix fans are going to be thrilled to have."
Although the artist's catalog has been repackaged extensively through the years, Hendrix points out one notable omission.
"We have never (released) the core catalog as a boxed set," she said. "That will be one of the next projects to come out under the Sony project."
To help promote the reissue campaign, Experience Hendrix will organize a concert tour next year. The company previously has sponsored tours featuring such contemporary artists as Carlos Santana, Paul Rodgers and Robert Randolph performing Hendrix's music.
The Hendrix catalog sells about 500,000 albums annually in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Billboard estimates worldwide sales average about 1.2 million per year.
Block said Sony Legacy and Experience Hendrix will work hard to bring new Hendrix fans into the fold.
"The beauty in an artist like Hendrix is that year after year, kids come of age and Jimi is a rite of passage," he said. "It is our role and responsibility to make sure that when they wake up on that morning that they have a chance to taste and hear the genius of this guy."

Jimpress Jimi Hendrix magazine says save our children from skin cancer
http://www.shunburn.co.uk/about-shunburn/vat-campaign/
You can't believe all you see and hear, now can you
Before that the media was consumed with the story that Jimi Hendrix was murdered by his manager. Had any of them bothered to read the rest of Tappy Wright's book they would have realised that the number of verifiable facts was small and anyone likely to protest is already dead. Why in my advancing years I should ever imagine that our friends in the press would care about the actual truth in anything they print, repeat, copy or glorify I don't know.
Really though, what's bugging me is that I can't do a Google search without being swamped by the same story a thousand times, each retelling attempting to make it sound even more gruesome/lurid/astonishing (delete as applicable).
I think I'll pen an article claiming Jimi was a woman. In a heartbeat I'll be a household name guesting on Strictly Come Dancing, undertaking spoken word tours and maybe even forming a band. Just remember, this is where you heard it first.

Noddy
Vote no to Noddy! He's 60 apparently. He should be donning a flat cap and tut-tutting at the state of the nation.

The death of Mitch Mitchell
The passing of Mitch Mitchell means many things to many people. If you believe in the afterlife then the band is back together again and making music on another plane, but then they always were making music on another plane.
Mitch Mitchell's drumming added so much to the Jimi Hendrix Experience sound, it is hard to believe that anyone playing with an artist of Jimi Hendrix's stature would even be noticed but Mitch can be heard and listened to even if you were to remove Jimi from the mix.
The fact that it never really happened for him after the Experience days is neither a surprise or hard to understand and that must be very difficult to come to terms with when you have been part of something so successful. Nevertheless Mitch Mitchell is part of music history and his work will be appreciated fo many years to come.
Bless you Mitch.

Is your Jimi Hendrix collection as complete as you thought it was?
In the dark depths of Jimpress Towers the spring cleaners have arrived a good few months early to dust away the cobwebs. As they scurry around they have found a number of items that may be of interest to the avid Jimi Hendrix collector. The finds are now up for grabs on the Jimpress website and will be regularly updated as and when new items are uncovered.

Anyone know what the URL is to download the Jimi Hendrix poster PDF?
The six Print Mafia-designed posters (24" x 36"), featuring Nirvana, Bob Marley, KISS, The Who, Jimi Hendrix and Marvin Gaye, will be plastered throughout key markets (New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Phoenix, Boston, Cleveland, St. Louis, Dallas and Miami) in a snipe campaign launching October 13 and continuing through the election. The public may obtain free PDFs by texting a specific code on the posters which then reveals a URL from which the posters may be downloaded. At retail, limited edition silkscreen posters (1,000 of each artist) are being distributed to key chains and indie retail for added value promotions. Due to already overwhelming demand, 9,500 paper posters will also be sent to key one-stops as in-store display material.
Meanwhile online, IMEEM, the fastest growing social networking site in the U.S., is unveiling an Elect To Save page and video channel, widgets, and events centered on playlists and song battles. The Elect To Save imagery, present throughout the site, will also be available to fans to use on their own. In addition, Amazon is launching an Elect To Save microstore.
Employing behavioral targeting, UMe will also reach out online to the "engaged voter," those who research the candidates and issues, and those who have expressed interest in and behaviors related to politics, Barack Obama, John McCain, etc. Not surprisingly then, Elect To Save will be featured on the entertainment homepage for CNN.
Among the artists in the Elect To Save sale campaign are ABBA, Bryan Adams, All American Rejects, Mary J. Blige, Bon Jovi, Boyz II Men, James Brown, Jimmy Buffett, Eric Clapton, Patsy Cline, Common, Counting Crows, Sheryl Crow, Def Leppard, Eagles, Melissa Etheridge, Guns N' Roses, Elton John, Keane, Toby Keith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, John Mellencamp, Van Morrison, Willie Nelson, Tom Petty, The Police, Lionel Richie, Rise Against, Rush, Snow Patrol, Soundgarden, Steely Dan, Styx, Sublime, Josh Turner, Conway Twitty, U2, Weezer, Stevie Wonder, and Rob Zombie.
Each of the six poster-featured artists not only have albums in the sale campaign but also major releases and/or events upcoming -- the KISS IKONS box set (and a Paul Stanley DVD), 20th Anniversary of Nirvana's first album, Jimi Hendrix's 40th anniversary of ELECTRIC LADYLAND, The Who's tour, Amazon's Bob Marley celebration B Is For Bob, and Marvin Gaye releases associated with Motown 50, the label's 50th anniversary.
